''Oh, Moon'' from Istanbul's Unforgettable Films (1988)

Istanbul's 100s Series - 8 100 Movies of Istanbul # 67 - ''Oh, Moon'' (1988)

Yekta (Yeşim Tozan) lives in an old mansion on the island with her big aunt (Gülsen Tuncer) and bedridden grandfather (Özcan Özgür). The great looking after his sick father is still taking care of Yekta, but he is unable to cope with his mixed psychology. The small aunt (Nurinisa Yıldırım), who lives a modern life apart from the mansion, often visits the mansion and tries to keep Yekta away from the suffocating atmosphere of this place. Yekta, who insists on living her own dreams among her aunts, can not believe anyone when she sees her mother at night, even though she goes up to the mansion tower and watches her mother in the sea ...

Although it was made in the recent past, we witness the old times of Istanbul in the film shot in black and white. The lonely mansion, calm island, and seagull voices take the audience on a distant journey through the movie. Interior scenes are filmed in a dilapidated mansion in Buyukada. The Aya Yorgi Monastery and the hill with the monastery in Buyukada, Burgaz island are frequently seen. These places seem to be free from the noise and crowd of Istanbul.

On the way to Istanbul with Yekta's aunt, the walk on the empty streets of Eminönü and Mahmutpaşa evokes the view that he was traveling in an abandoned city. During this walk with Yekta's aunt, a few kids follow them. Yekta looks at these children with amazement and joy. The European Passage in Beyoğlu is among the other places used in the filming of Istanbul.
