Flower Feast & Women's Day

En son güncellendiği tarih: Mar 31

Adaları Güzelleştirme Cemiyeti (The Islands Beautification Society), which started to work under its founder Emin Ali Durusoy in 1934 to revive the islands of Istanbul, explains the first article of the program prepared for 1935 as follows:

“During the 1935 Flower Feast, ten cars decorated with flowers passed among thousands of people lined up on both sides with applause. Popular magazine of the period explains Perşembe (Thursday): “It looks like an elegant wedding. At this wedding, one seems to see that finix and magnolia, gloyol and oleander making love, hortansia and jasmine, daisy and roses getting engaged, and finally carnation and lilies getting married ... Everywhere is in flowers. Even the asphalt roads of Prinkipo (Büyükada) are filled with flowers ... Flowers on the cars, flowers on the lapels, flowers on the tables, flowers on the laps. ''

Of course, the jury of the time chose the most beautifully decorated car. With your permission, I would like to choose the photo of the car representing the Burgazada Deniz Kulübü (Burgaz Island Sea Club) in the recent flower wars that caused me to write this article on March 8, International Women's Day as the winner of the contest.

Happy Women's Day.

P.S. The three flowers in the photograph are Seza, Vivyan and Süzet, respectively from left to right. Thanks to Dolly Galiko for seeing my post and sharing the names of her childhood friends with us from Israel.
